With a new year comes tax law changes. One of the biggest changes this year are the due dates of important tax forms. The following forms have new dates:
[list type=”disc” position=”left”]
- W-2s are due to the employee and government agency on January 31, whether filing paper or electronically.
- 1099-MISC that report amounts in Box 7, Nonemployee Compensation, are due January 31. If there is nothing to report in Box 7, then the due date stays the same: February 28 for paper filings and March 31 for electronic filings.
- Partnership Returns (Form 1065) are now due March 15. S Corporation Returns (Form 1120S) remain due March 15 as in previous years. Both the 1065 and 1120S can be extended to September 15 as in past years.
- C Corporation Returns (Form 1120) are now due April 15. Just as before, extended 1120s are due September 15.
- FinCEN Form 114, the Foreign Bank Account Report (FBAR), are now due April 15 and can be extended to October 15.

April 15th falls on a Saturday this year and the Federal Government is observing Emancipation Day on April 17. As a result, any return due April 15, 2017 is due on Tuesday, April 18.
Note: In addition to the due date changes above, the mileage rate for business miles driven is 53.5 cents per mile.
